I finally got around to playing Sequel Blight. Right off the bat, hot DAMN did this game deliver on the gameplay front. The job system is really well executed (I'd put it about on par with FFV's system, maybe just a tad lower) and it's fun to mess around with, though it does take a little while to be able to meaningfully mix and match job skills since skill points are tied to level ups and point refunding is a bit expensive until much later. I think items that let you distribute extra skill points like the Seeds of Skill in Dragon Quest would have sped things up a lot. Also there's a really nice "power plateau" around the mid-late game that keeps things moving and makes build choices more important than raw level grinding which I appreciate, though I did still end up hitting a couple of brick walls in certain boss fights. Most impressive to me was the post-game in the monster country, which straight up doubled my playtime and even had its own post-post-game set of sidequests.
The characters were the real star of the show, though. All four of them (Except maybe Uula, up until much later) were super charming and had their moments to shine, though admittedly Tirma only comes close because she's such a throat goat. Rabi's retard commentary when examining mundane items was the cherry on top. I was a little disappointed that the first half of the game had little as far as monster scenes go, but I understand the focus is on the main party so I won't complain much about it. The borderline-furry bunny's scenes basically made up for it, I suppose.
I understand the sequels (heheheh) improve on the format quite a bit, and I definitely had some minor problems with the game so I'm excited to see how the rest of the series handles since there's so many of them. Gonna take a break for a bit so that probably won't be right away, though.
