>I think people who do this generally go too far down the rabbit hole and just start imagining regular women with no downsides but with a disconnect in their minds that lets them avoid flashbacks or ptsd or whatever.
There's different tiers to it. Sure, there are the guys that will unironically refer to characters as their wife and come up with all this stuff about them in their minds. That's definitely too far. But for me it's more like I come across an image or doujin and think "I like that girl, it would be nice if she was my wife", that's part of the fantasy for me, at least while I'm consuming the media. I know it's not real and it doesn't impact my actions in real life, but maybe that's just because I've given up on women already for unrelated reasons.

I really like fox girls and try to find places that share my interest. Of course I like monster girls in general too, they're so much more interesting than plain human characters. I have to be very invested in a human character to go out of my way to look for art of her. And I prefer the imageboard format over having a single general that's either basically dead or reaches bump limit every day (referring to 4chan).
