I watched Godzilla x King Kong today. I don't know why they used x and not & but anyway, it was kind of mid. It's probably a lot of fun if you like the boring monkey over a real kaiju because it really indulges itself with giving him and the humans a lot of screentime while Godzilla feels like he's there to get in a few fights to remind you that this is still a Godzilla movie. The humans were hella boring. The jokes don't land, the australian guy was the only fun one, and they go into some lore about a tribe of natives to Hollow Earth which I didn't care about. There's an orangutan as the main villain who acts like a smug bad boy type anime villain at the start but I like to call him Lanky Kong. The actual kaiju fights were fun but they felt kind of short. I feel like with these new amerimutt Godzilla movies they really peaked with King of The Monsters because the fights were frequent, heavy, and a lot of the movie was focused on the monster you came to watch. Now I'm expected to care about a mom and her deaf psychic native american daughter who always looks like she's about to cry or the sun is in her eyes. When they aren't on-screen I'm expected to care about Kong and the baby orangutan he found that I like to call Diddy Kong. I don't know if the movies were always like this but this one fell off while the first two knew what a kaiju movie should be. I'm no educated movie critic but overall it felt kind of mid.
